WRESTLING CLASS
Course Description
This course is intended to develop basic wrestling vocabulary, increase wrestling skills, and improve wrestling technique. Wrestlers will participate in a year long strength and conditioning program designed to increase strength, flexibility, overall conditioning and stamina.
Course Requirements
As a student in wrestling class, you are expected to become an active member of the Travis Wrestling Team. Wrestling season starts in November and ends in February. However, training will be year round. Students will have to engage in practice outside of regular class time, plus competitions may be in the evening, on weekends, or during vacation breaks. When a student enrolls in athletics, he/she agrees to adhere to the Austin ISD and Travis High School Athletic Policies. Athletics is voluntary, it is a privilege and not a right, therefor athletes must follow rules of order. Physical examinations and a hydration test are required for participation. Athletes must also participate in at least 3 fundraisers throughout the year. Athletics offers opportunities to learn practical lessons of life and test one’s capacity to function as a citizen in society through wrestling.
Course Grading
Drills and Conditioning (50%)
Wrestling requires repetitive practice of skill, technique, and training. Fifty percent of your grade will be determined by participating in all drills and conditioning activities.
Effort (30%)
Non-suits will lose 5 points for effort unless a medical note mandates that student cannot suit up. Appropriate research assignments will be given to long term medical conditions. You are expected to dress out everyday!
Writing and Book Reports (20%)
To further your grasp of academics and athletics, a writing project or book report will be due each six weeks.
Course Supples
Workout clothes, wrestling shoes, headgear. If you have braces, you must have a two sided mouthpiece.
Disclaimer
This class is designed for the SERIOUS wrestler only. This is not your average PE class. We will work hard everyday. I will not tolerate fakes or phonies. You will remain academically eligible the entire year. This will be the toughest class you have ever taken in your life, BUT it will make you a better person! In the end, it will be the best decision you have ever made.
